Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress who works in both film, television and the theatre. She's best known as Teri Joe the fiery lawyer on the Showtime series Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe is her new name following her marriage to. Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an aptitude for acting in her when she was a child and won a Best Actress award at a Maryland high-school competition. Her acting diploma was earned from the New York University after working in the Washington Ballet Company' and in theatre. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love was her debut major role. Born to Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria up to the age of seven. Contractor was well-versed in traveling around the globe and in a wide range of civilizations at an extremely young age. She was a boarding student in London between seven and nine years old, then her family moved to Toronto, Canada, where she lived for the bulk of her childhood and young adulthood. Contractor studied and became a dancer of classical style in Toronto. Contractor was just 16 when she realized that performing would become her profession. She had danced for over a decade. After graduating high school, she accepted a full scholarship to Toronto's University of Toronto, where she completed a masters degree in theatre and a double major in psychology and sociology. Contractor was a student who'd been a student for a year was invited to audition during an open call for Pericles which was held at the highly acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canadawhich she won the part. Her performance was lauded throughout the 92 productions which she was a part of. She won an award in 2002, which was awarded to the Best Production of the Year by Canadian Critics. She was offered the opportunity to join Stratford Conservatory. The school is a private institution that accepts just eight men and four woman to take a course in traditional theatre.
